In Change-Man, when I compile the DB2 module there comes an option 'precompile variables = (Y/N)'. I want to know when and why we use it - what is the purpose of them?

Please note that for members who prefer to view our site in 'mobile style' on a computer, we have an option to switch to 'Mobile View' while on computer also. You can find this option at the bottom of the index page just above the donation chest icon.

Please Note - in mobile-view, as of now, "basic blue color scheme" is the only standard theme at the moment - so you might see "green changing to blue" while in 'mobile-view' or seeing the site on a mobile.

Enjoy! :)

The Rational ClearCase family consists of several software tools for supporting software configuration management (SCM) of source code and other software development assets. It is developed by the Rational Software division of IBM. ClearCase forms the base for configuration management for many large and medium sized businesses and can handle projects with hundreds or thousands of developers.

A part of Rational ClearCase is revision control system, which is a feature for end users. ClearCase supports two kinds of use models, UCM (Unified Change Management), and base ClearCase. UCM provides an out-of-the-box model while base ClearCase provides a basic infrastructure (upon which UCM is built). Unified Change Management (UCM) is the object-oriented realization of ClearCase, a set of software tools typically supporting the process area software configuration management. Both can be configured to support a wide variety of needs. UCM is part of RUP (Rational Unified Process) and therefore all process templates and roles can be used from RUP.

ClearCase can run on a number of platforms including AIX, z/OS, Linux, HP-UX, Solaris, and Windows.[1] It can handle large binary files, large numbers of files, and large repository sizes. It handles branching, labeling, and versioning of directories.

It provides the source code management and build facilities of a software configuration manager (SCM). For example, SCLM supports Check out and Check in functions. SCLM provides a pessimistic locking model so that concurrent editing functions cannot be performed on a locked SCLM member. SCLM also provides build functions and a development hierarchy so that code, as it is developed and tested, can be promoted up to the next level of development. Such a hierarchy can exist in a tree structure as shown in the following figure. Other projects might have additional levels.

This is now known as CA Software Change Manager. The first CCC (acronym for 'Change and Configuration Control') product was released in the early 70s and was designed as a project for a Defense Department contractor in Santa Barbara CA. (The company at the time was Hughes Aircraft, now Santa Barbara Research Center for Raytheon.) It became the first commercially available CM tool.
CCC was designed to manage all the components that went into an aircraft engine, and seeing as the same engine was used by both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy (for the F-14 Tomcat and F-15 Eagle) it required robust and reliable parallel development. The first version of CCC/Harvest was commercially developed by Softool Corporation, a CM-focused software company founded in 1977 in Goleta, CA. Other CCC tools included CCC/Manager, CCC/DM Turnkey and CCC/QuickTrak.

Softool was acquired in late 1995 by Platinum Technology, which was later acquired in May 1999 by Computer Associates (now known as CA Technologies) who added CCC/Harvest to their AllFusion suite. In 2002, the 'CCC' part of the name was dropped, and 'Change Manager' was added so it became known as AllFusion Harvest Change Manager. Later this was changed to just CA Harvest Change Manager. On October 7, 2008, the 'Harvest' part of the name was dropped and changed to 'Software' and it is now known as CA Software Change Manager.
