Looks like the warning you gave about it is the key point for me. I was not able to load the files. But I was wondering, I can FTP files(notepad) from my computer to Mainframes but CBT is not allowed :?

Please note that for members who prefer to view our site in 'mobile style' on a computer, we have an option to switch to 'Mobile View' while on computer also. You can find this option at the bottom of the index page just above the donation chest icon.

Please Note - in mobile-view, as of now, "basic blue color scheme" is the only standard theme at the moment - so you might see "green changing to blue" while in 'mobile-view' or seeing the site on a mobile.

Enjoy! :)

This tape was established and previously edited for over 15 years, from Version 1 through Version 321 by Arnold Casinghino who worked at Connecticut Bank and Trust Company (CBT).

It comes with GUI and command line interface, documentation, demo programs, and optional regression test programs. Once z390 is installed, you can assemble, link, and execute the HLASM compatible "Hello World" demo that uses WTO by following these steps:

    1. Download z390 v1.4.02 in InstallShield format for Windows or file image for Linux and install (There is a Linux guide on http://www.z390.org).
    2. Double click the z390 icon on desktop to start z390 GUI interface.
    3. Enter command ASMLG demo\DEMO which will assemble, link, and execute the demo source program DEMO.MLC stored in the demo directory. The ASMLG.BAT command executes 3 steps: macro assembly, link, and emulation. The following files are created in the process:

  • DEMO.PRN - assembly source listing
  • DEMO.OBJ - relocatable object file in mainframe compatible format with ESD, TXT, RLD, and END 80 byte records. (There is an optional expanded format showing all fields using OBJHEX option).
  • DEMO.LST - linker listing showing CSECT's, entries, etc.
  • DEMO.390 - relocatable load module with binary mainframe object code and trailing RLD records.
  • DEMO.LOG - execution log including start, WTO, and stop statistics.
  • DEMO.ERR - error log including start and stop messages for all steps.

The TRACE option can be used for tracing execution using command ASMLG demo\DEMO TRACE. This results in generation of a DEMO.TRE trace file showing every mainframe instruction executed along with address, condition code, and operand values.

Hercules is a computer emulator which allows software designed for IBM mainframe computers and for plug compatible mainframes to run on a low-cost personal computers. Although there are other mainframe emulators which perform a similar function, Hercules is significant in that it enables private individuals to run mainframe computer software on their own personal computers.

One should strictly NOTE that Hercules is just a bare iron emulator, You will have to provide an operating system to it before you ask, "How to write a COBOL, JCL etc. ...on it".

Another thing Hercules is a emulator not simulator!

Said that, Hercules runs under multiple parent operating systems including Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, Solaris, and Mac OS X and is released under the open source software license QPL. It is analogous to Bochs and QEMU in that it emulates CPU instructions and select peripheral devices only. A vendor (or distributor) must still provide an operating system, and the user must install it. Hercules was notably the first mainframe emulator to incorporate 64-bit z/Architecture support, beating out commercial offerings. Roger Bowler, a mainframe systems programmer, started development of the Hercules emulator in 1999. Jay Maynard currently maintains and hosts the project.
