A DLI program runs only when the databases are NOT available online. At most of the shops, IMS databases are brought "offline" in the evening to allow batch DLI programs to run. The databases are then brought back "online" in the morning.

If you see the databases in your JCL, you are executing DLI - if not, you are executing BMP.

Hope this helps.

Siblings - Segments that share the same parent. Example : B,E1 and E2. C1,C2 and D. F1,F2,G and H.
Twins - Multiple segment occurrences that share the same parent occurrence. Example : E1 and E2, C1 and C2, F1 and F2.

Hope it helps.

What is 'Siblings' means in IMS. What is the difference between 'twins' and siblings in IMS DB. I read about it, however, it's confusing.

Code:
/Dis prog <psb-name>

Look for PSB status in output of above command, if its 'Stopped' means PSB is not active otherwise its 'Active/running'.

and run the DBDGEN. Mostly DBDGEN is done by IMS DBA.

Hope this helps.

They are "GSAM data-sets". GSAM data-sets can be considered as a "single occurence" of a IMS database. As DL/I was written as the main language for IMS DB, when an IMS program uses a GSAM data set, the program treats it like a "sequential nonhierarchic database". From that prespective, GSAM has no segments, no keys, and no parentage and that's obvious.

As Manoj said, GSAM can be used for check-point restart, however, your program must use symbolic CHKP and XRST calls if it uses GSAM. Basic CHKP calls cannot checkpoint GSAM databases.

Here is more on how to process GSAM in your program: Processing GSAM Databases.

For the below structure of DBD
Code:
 DBD NAME=TESTDBD,ACCESS=(HIDAM)
 *
  DATASET DD1=DATASET1,DEVICE=3390,SIZE=(2048)
  SEGM NAME=PART,BYTES=50,PARENT=0,
  FIELD NAME=(PLANT,SEQ,U),BYTES=010,START=001,TYPE=C
 *
  DBDGEN
  FINISH
  END

I need to add 5 fields in the segment SEGMENT PART. What needs to be done?

This is very precise and to the point answer. I had been confusing myself by asking around and heard as more definitions than the people I asked about it.

We got 121 users online Yesterday, on 17 Jul 2013 at 22:54. You can check that at the bottom of Board Index. This will be shown like this: "Most users ever online was 121 on 17 Jul 2013 22:54".

That's a great achievement.

Thanks for Liking and showing the trust in to the Labor we're putting in, much appreciate that,

Thanks,

No, Not really - you need to decide as a programmer if you might need multiple PCBs for the same program and that's it.
